Sample Itinerary

A classic 7-day Machame Route itinerary. All treks are fully customizable.

Day 1
Arrival in Arusha

Arrival Arusha. Meet your guide, equipment check, and briefing. Overnight at your Arusha hotel.

Day 2
Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Machame Gate to Machame Camp. Trek through montane rainforest to Machame Camp at 3,010m. Distance: 11km, 5-7 hours.

Day 3
Shira Camp

Machame Camp to Shira Camp. Enter the heath and moorland zone. Shira Cave Camp at 3,845m. Distance: 5km, 4-6 hours.

Day 4
Lava Tower to Barranco

Shira to Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp at 3,960m. Distance: 10km, 6-8 hours.

Day 5
Barranco to Barafu

Barranco to Barafu Camp. Climb the Great Barranco Wall, traverse the Karanga Valley, and reach Barafu at 4,673m. Distance: 9km, 7-9 hours.

Day 6
Summit & Mweka Camp

Summit! Depart at midnight for the summit via Stella Point (5,756m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Descend to Mweka Camp at 3,100m. Distance: 15km, 12-16 hours.

Day 7
Descent & Return

Descent to Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificate, and return to Arusha for celebration.
